That's still happening? I thought MS fixed the problem.

Son of a bitch. Another one bites the dust.
R.I.P. Wibble's well-played Xbox 360, you were a real fighter. If you call tomorrow they should have the coffin to you by Thursday, that way you can send it off before the weekend and hopefully get it back before the end of next week.
B-Maz, I don't know if they've fixed (or not fixed) the problem but his 360 is old. They can't just fix it with an update or something, it's an internal hardware malfunction that affects a very large percentage of 360s made in the first 2 years (at least) of this console life cycle. They may have fixed the problem but we'll see RRoDs until the twilight of this generation, guaranteed.

Yeah, that poor system has gotten a lot of use. Very little from me in the last month or two aside from Rock Band but I've put a good bunch of time into it. It's my second system and was actually less than a year old.
Mallas, I haven't really kept up. Does Microsoft repair for free these red ringers still or is it one of them $100 charges or something? I was already telling myself I'd finally now get an Elite since I need that larger hard drive but I guess I should just hold off if I'm just going to send it in. Hmm.

Normal repairs you have a 1 year warranty, RoD, 3 years. So it is free of charge I believe.

I am almost afraid to play my 360. Though I should play the hell out of it before the warranty is up I guess. Poor Wibble, at least it is a free fix.
07-08-2008, 03:00 PM
I was just going to say Donald, maybe you should play the hell out of it until it breaks but you beat me to it.
Wibble, that system is still completely covered if you bought it less than a year ago. But the RRoD is still covered no matter what.

The stupid disc drive on my current one is starting to go. I'm gonna get rid of it before it's too late (of course I'll warn the current buyer before giving it to them so there are no surprises if it goes) and then use whatever I get there to help buy a new one after they announce the price drop this E3. So many fucking problems with a $400 console it's ridiculous. Maybe next gen the assholes will spend more than $1 on manufacturing.

If my system doesn't red ring on me by September I'm going to hot towel it so it does. I got it 6 months after launch and it's been working just fine. I don't want it to fuck up when the warranty expires.

the RRoD is free. If your optical drive dies, it's $99.

My drive has been going for months and now the tray won't even open when it's standing upright. I'm out of warranty for the drive so I think I'm going to towel it soon.

Did anyone else hear about the massive amount of Elites dying lately? Kotaku had an article on it. Sad its still such a prevalent issue.

Considering how many problems there are, the right thing for MS to do would be fix any and all problems for free for the remainder of this generation. Yes it costs them money... Guess what? Too fucking bad. It costs consumers with a lot less money than that company, a pretty penny to buy the fucking console and it should fucking work out of the box. Obviously electronics will always have problems but the amount the 360 has is a little ridiculous.
07-09-2008, 12:33 AM
Definitely true. I would hope they learn their lesson for next generation and make something technologically sound and then some... like the PS3. They sucked at making the console but, damn, if I don't love their gamin experience.

Yeah, I went crawling back like a slut, even though I said I wouldn't, because after not having one for two months I realized the 360 has by far the best games (for me) this gen. Hopefully the 720, or whatever they call the next Xbox, doesn't have the same problems. Until then I'll just have to make due with the problems and enjoy the games in the mean time.
