So you've created your newest alter-ego, customized your own band profile, imported your Rock Band 1 disc songs over, dove into the new single-player (or online!) Band World Tour Mode, and played through the new 85-song tracklist. Your thoughts?

The new songlist seems to have more hits-and-misses than the original Rock Band's to me, but on the same token some of the hits are really stellar. "Livin' on a Prayer", "Go Your Own Way"", "Man in the Box" and "Alive" are just a few of the songs that I had a blast playing (on Guitar, at least. I haven't tried the Drum and Vocal careers on RB2 yet, but I will tomorrow).

Or maybe "more hits-and-misses" isn't the proper phrase. Maybe it should be "more indie vs mainstream". In either case, there are definitely a few songs I just don't care for.

On the whole though, Rock Band 2 is a fine, fine game. They really did a great job of improving everything that could have been improved from the original.

GK and I have plans to start our own band. And that plan got me wondering: Would a 4-player, all-Hooligan band be practical? Or even possible? Just thought I'd throw that out there just in case anyone was interested.
I concur on some levels. I haven't had too much time with the game yet. (Maybe 2 hours) But I really liked the solo progression from the last Rock Band. I always wanted to play through World Tour by myself but that doesn't mean I want to give up the original song progression from every other music game I've ever known. Ya know?

Hell, I'm going to go play some right now...

Ura's EDIT: I just played "Livin' on a Prayer" for the first time and honestly... I don't like it nearly as much as I like the RB1 song. At least to play. There isn't enough orange if you know what I'm saying. It was kind of boring. It's possible it will get better as time goes one (there are songs I didn't like as much on RB1 that I love to play now) but it didn't seem as fun as say, "Man in the Box."
I understand why you like the more traditional song progression. I like it too. It's simple, straight-forward and efficient.

But in Rock Band 2 you just have a little more flexibility in the songs you play. In the Guitar Hero series, you had to play at least four out of the five songs in order to progress to the next set. And on Expert, you had to play all of the songs. So you were stuck playing the songs you didn't like at all (or maybe even hated). Here, even on Expert you can skip a song here and there and still progress.

And then there's the Create-A-Setlist option in every single city, which allows you to compile a mini-set out of the 500+ possible songs.

Now that I've tried Rock Band 2's World Tour Mode, I don't want to go back.
I think there's only 300+ possible songs. The 500+ number that's been bumped around is what they've said should be available by years end. Big Grin

It's way too late for me to post much. I'll write a lot tomorrow or something.
$5.00 hard earned American dollars for an import license for my Rock Band tracks? Damn you Harmonix. (I immediately clicked yes.)
Good man, Mallas. The $5 fee is totally worth it.

Ah yes, of course. I knew that. Still, there's already a ton of songs to choose from. And 20 of the ones that will be released by year's end will be absolutely free.

Those 20 are out, aren't they? They're 20 Queen songs or maybe I misread whatever I read.
The 20 songs aren't available yet, and I don't think they've been announced yet, either.

I love the fact that the Band mode has been opened for solo players, and I'm loving the new drum kit. Apparently I'm one of the few who got one that actually works. Oh well.
My favorite three features are as follows:

1. Being able to not be tied down to an instrument in your band. If I don't want to play drums today, I shouldn't have to create another band.

2. Being able to progress the World Tour solo, as well as not having to end up on Expert to finish it. If my friends and I just want to play on Medium and Hard, that shouldn't stop us.

3. Creating set lists so I do not have to exit back to the menu every time in Quick Play.
Played it for a few hours the other night at a buddy's place. One thing that pissed me off was that we weren't allowed to take our band name online, apparently "The Colonoscopy Cowboys" is offensive on some level.
For whatever reason, I chose the name "Whettspott."

With an umlaut over the "o" obviously.
Ninja, for some reason any name using the word Fables is also deemed unfit for XBL.

I was trying to make Bigby and the Fables, but it didn't work. So I went with Bigby and the Wolves.
I was making a short band with just me so I called it "Nate's Hate" and they wouldn't allow it. I was like, WTF? HATE?
Just think if they allowed the word "Hate". Someone's band could be called "I Hate Nate". You know, not that I was thinking about doing that... Or anything... Damn you RB2 and XBox Live!

In all seriousness, I can kind of understand not allowing "Hate". But "Fables"? Seriously, what the fuck?
I'm trying to figure out "Fables" too. Like, what parts of it might be kicking it out of usable but I can't think of what it could be.
